What Is a Micro Wedding and Is It Right For You?
With the uncertainty of the world currently many couples are beginning to panic about their wedding and wonder if they will be forced to postpone or cancel their upcoming nuptials.
If your wedding is within the next three months this could leave many couples without wedding insurance facing a huge loss of income.
My advice to couples? Consider a micro wedding as an alternative.
This tradition has been around long before the dreaded C virus took hold but it's something that could now be a lifeline to many couples.
So what exactly is a Micro Wedding?
It's a wedding with less than 20 guests.
Being smaller in size, it’s usually cheaper, more relaxed and shorter in length than a traditional wedding day.
It differs from both an elopement and an ‘intimate’ wedding. An elopement is usually done in secret, will be attended by just the couple marrying and two witnesses – where as a micro wedding is a full wedding day, just on a smaller scale and with less risk to your close family and friends.
The advantage of a micro wedding is that it can include all the components of a ‘traditional’ wedding day, like exchanging vows, giving rings, cutting a cake or enjoying a first dance but it doesn't have to include them all and can be created specifically for you.
A micro wedding will always have a ceremony and a reception, but can allow you to think outside the box. How about holding the ceremony in a family member's back garden and hosting a family BBQ for the reception.
Or how about having a ceremony at your local pub or favourite restaurant in their beer garden, or by their roaring fire, and all indulging in some delicious food and spending time with your loved ones celebrating in the late afternoon.
Bonus tip : You can even get someone to video the ceremony and stream it live to Facebook so extended family and friends can watch.
Why would you consider a micro wedding?
1 - It's relaxed.
There's not 200 eyes all on you and the pressure to have a spectacular event that lives up the magazines ideas of a perfect wedding. Just you, your partner and a small selection of your loved ones.
2 - It's cheap.
Chances are if you've already paid your current suppliers they will happily adjust to a smaller scale wedding and you won't face the huge loss of finances because most suppliers will already be paid for.
Your extended friends and family can enjoy your wedding photos at a later date, you can even plan a huge evening celebration later this year and create a beautiful video or slideshow of your micro wedding for them all to witness.
3 - Keep your suppliers in business
It's a scary time for couples right now, I know you face losing a lot of money if your wedding cannot go ahead. But for many small business owners like your wedding suppliers the sheer amount of wedding cancellations we are potentially facing could put them of business and seriously affect their ability to do everyday things like pay their bills or provide food for their kids.
4 - We need to stay positive
Cancelling or postponing your wedding leaves you feeling blue and when times are hard we really need positive moments and times of joy to bring us together and connect the community. By hosting a micro wedding you're giving your closest family and friends a chance to escape the madness of the media panic, to let their hair down, and to celebrate with those they love the most.
