Should I take out wedding insurance?

When it comes to planning a wedding it's easy to get caught up in the details of the day, booking a venue, choosing the right photographer, planning the decor.

But what is something goes wrong?

Are you financially prepared if the worst happens?

When it comes to Wedding Insurance many couples feel like it's an added expense that they can avoid purchasing, after all they selected a long established venue they trust, a photographer with a good reputation, and suppliers recommended to them by friends and family.

This past month three, yes three wedding venues have gone into administration, and that's just within a twenty minute drive from my home in Lancashire. That's a shocking statistic and a large number of couples who are left with no wedding venue, no refund and heartbroken over their ruined big day.

The abrupt closure of Thomas Cook and the devastating affect it had on customers and employers shows us that in this harsh economy no business is safe, and wedding insurance covers you should disaster strike.

A good insurance plan will cover a whole host of potential problems, bad weather, illness, venue or vendor issues, a family death.

When planning a wedding I know you want it to be all sugar and spice and all things nice, but if you're spending 10k plus it's wise to invest in the few hundred pounds in a good insurance plan.

It's important to do your research when choosing a Wedding insurance provider as many policies will only cover specific issues and leave you in the lurch.

For instance one couple had a £120 wedding insurance policy from Debenhams, but were surprised to be told that it would not cover venue cancellations.

Policy documents for the Platinum insurance policy, which covers weddings up to £25,000, state that the couple would be covered if the venue cancelled because of “an outbreak of infectious or contagious disease, damage to the venue, murder or suicide at the premises, or closure of the venue by the relevant authority”. But it did not cover the couple when their venue decided to stop offering weddings as a service.

I hope this is something you never have to deal with, but it's better to be cautious when dealing with one of the most important days of your life!

If you do find yourself in a situation of having to cancel or postpone your wedding day then my services can be transferred to another day, providing I am not exclusively booked for another wedding on that date.
